Ordino Launches Sixth Ordino Jardins d’Art with 18 Artists in Streets

Ordino has launched its sixth edition of Ordino Jardins d’Art, an open-air contemporary art event that runs from September 11 to 13, turning the parish’s streets, gardens and heritage sites into exhibition spaces.

Eighteen artists—nine Andorrans, three Spaniards, five French and one Tunisian—will present works spanning sculpture, painting, land art, photography, watercolor, linocut and graffiti. The pieces will appear at locations such as the church square, La Placeta, Casa d’Areny-Plandolit gardens, Casa Rossell, the Japanese garden and Era Rossell. Organizers aim to blend the art with the local landscape and heritage, encouraging visitors to explore both during the event.

The call for entries drew nearly 60 submissions worldwide, with an initial shortlist of 20 before selecting the final 18. Culture Councillor Mònica Armengol described the goal of establishing the event as a unique fixture in Andorra’s cultural scene, using contemporary creation to energize the village. “For three days, Ordino’s public spaces will become a large open-air exhibition area,” she said.

Director of Cultural Promotion Joan Marc Joval praised the format for moving art beyond traditional galleries to reach broader audiences. He pointed to its mix of culture, heritage, participation and economic activity, including opportunities for artists to sell pieces.

A jury comprising Armengol, Itziar Badenas and Meritxell Blanco will assess the installations for quality, originality, concept and innovation. Prizes include a top award of €3,000, an accessit of €1,000 and a €1,000 Ministry of Culture honor. Winners will be announced at the September 13 closing ceremony.

The program also includes an art market with eight stalls on Carrer Major and Era del Raser, plus the opening of Gemma Piera’s ‘Donis-memòria’ exhibition from the prior edition, workshops, a magic show and a DJ session.
