Ordino Launches Sixth Ordino Jardins d’Art with 18 Artists in Streets

Ordino has launched the sixth edition of Ordino Jardins d’Art, a contemporary art event held outdoors from September 11 to 13 that fills the parish’s streets, gardens, heritage sites and public squares with exhibitions.
Eighteen selected artists—nine from Andorra, three from Spain, five from France and one from Tunisia—will display sculptures, paintings, land art, photography, watercolors, linocuts and graffiti at sites including the church square, La Placeta, Casa d’Areny-Plandolit gardens, Casa Rossell, the Japanese garden and Era Rossell. The displays integrate with Ordino’s landscape and cultural assets to draw visitors into both art and local heritage.
Organizers received nearly 60 applications from around the world, narrowing them to a shortlist of 20 before finalizing the 18 participants. Culture Councillor Mònica Armengol said the event brings contemporary art into the village to highlight its cultural heritage and foster exchanges between local and foreign professionals. She noted strong Andorran involvement alongside international contributors.
Director of Cultural Promotion Joan Marc Joval highlighted the value of open-air displays over enclosed galleries, creating opportunities for interaction between national and international creators amid Ordino’s public spaces, gardens and heritage spots.
A jury including Armengol, Itziar Badenas and Meritxell Blanco will evaluate entries based on artistic quality, originality, conceptual strength and innovation. Awards comprise a €3,000 first prize, a €1,000 accessit and a €1,000 Ministry of Culture recognition, announced at the September 13 closing. Badenas emphasized the jury’s focus on fresh proposals with powerful content.
Alongside the competition, an art market with eight stalls on Carrer Major and Era del Raser will offer original works for sale by participants and others. The schedule features the opening of Gemma Piera’s ‘Donis-memòria’ exhibition from the previous edition, plus workshops, a magic show and a DJ session. Armengol pointed out that sales opportunities add significant value for artists and buyers.
