Andorra Lírica Unveils 12th Season with Tango, Lullabies and Opera

Andorra Lírica has announced its 12th season, opening with an Argentine tango production and featuring five more performances through May that blend lyrical music, opera, lullabies, Christmas carols and zarzuela.

The season begins on October 17 at 8:30pm in the Auditori Nacional with Tangos Lírics: una vida en una nit. The show combines tango, milonga and operatic elements, performed by a classical-trained quintet specialising in tango alongside dancers Anabel Gutiérrez Otero and Imanol Muñoz. Highlights include works by Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel, as well as lyrical pieces such as Tango de la Menegilda from La Gran Vía and Yo soy María from María de Buenos Aires. Ordino culture councillor Mònica Armengol, who opened the programme's presentation on Tuesday, expressed particular enthusiasm for this opener.

The launch event in Ordino drew representatives from Sant Julià de Lòria, La Massana and the Andorran government. Armengol stressed the value of parish partnerships in offering quality cultural events, while artistic director Jonaina Salvador pointed to the season's diverse genres and innovative formats seldom seen in lyrical programming.

On November 6, a Rocafort roundtable will discuss the voice's influence on prenatal and postnatal development as part of the Bressol Líric initiative. The next day, November 7, brings a Bressol Líric concert to Auditori Claror in Sant Julià de Lòria. Performers Jonaina Salvador, Guillem Forné and Xavier Tomàs, accompanied by Kic Barroc, Efrem Roca and Daniel Forcada, will deliver lullabies in Catalan, Spanish, French, English, German and Latin American styles. The evening launches the book-vinyl Bessó, which explores vanishing twin syndrome through music and illustrations.

December 18 offers the Christmas concert Nit d’òpera i Nadales at Auditori de les Fontetes in La Massana, mixing opera and carols. December 24 features the traditional Cant de la Sibil·la in Ordino's church.

March sees Auditori Claror host Jacques Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers in collaboration with the French Embassy, involving singers, dancers, musicians and actors.

The season ends on May 8 with the premiere zarzuela L’as de l’engany by Alejandro López Román and David Sanz, based on texts by Jacinto Benavente and Esteve Soler.

This marks Andorra Lírica's 43rd performance overall. Salvador highlighted its global tours to places like Girona, Valencia, Alicante, Verona and Italy, which promote Andorra while bringing international talent to local audiences.
