Andorra Lírica Unveils 12th Season with Tango, Lullabies and Opera

Andorra Lírica has unveiled its 12th season, featuring six diverse performances blending tango, lullabies, zarzuela, Christmas music, and opera through May.

The season kicks off on October 17 at 8:30pm in the Auditori Nacional with Tangos Lírics: una vida en una nit. This production merges tango, milonga, song, and opera elements, spotlighting works by Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel alongside lyrical pieces like Tango de la Menegilda from La Gran Vía and Yo soy María from María de Buenos Aires. Further selections include Youkali and La canción al árbol del olvido. A classical-trained quintet provides live music, joined by dancers Anabel Gutiérrez Otero and Imanol Muñoz.

The programme was presented on Tuesday in Ordino by Mònica Armengol, the parish's culture councillor, and Jonaina Salvador, Andorra Lírica's artistic director. Representatives from Sant Julià de Lòria, La Massana parishes, and the Andorran government also attended. Armengol emphasised institutional collaboration to deliver high-quality, accessible cultural programming across parishes. Salvador highlighted the season's mix of formats and genres, including new creations rare in lyrical music.

Next, on November 6, a roundtable at Rocafort will explore the voice's role in prenatal and postnatal development, tied to the Bressol Líric project. The following day, November 7, brings a Bressol Líric concert to Auditori Claror in Sant Julià de Lòria. Singers Jonaina Salvador, Guillem Forné, and Xavier Tomàs, backed by Kic Barroc, Efrem Roca, and Daniel Forcada, will perform lullabies in Catalan, Spanish, French, English, German, and Latin American traditions—ranging from soothing to lively. The event includes the launch of the book-vinyl Bessó, which uses music and illustrations to address vanishing twin syndrome.

December 18 features the Christmas concert Nit d’òpera i Nadales at Auditori de les Fontetes in La Massana, fusing operatic repertoire and carols. On December 24, Ordino's church hosts the traditional Cant de la Sibil·la.

In March, Auditori Claror stages Jacques Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers in partnership with the French Embassy—a large-scale show with singers, dancers, musicians, and actors.

The season closes on May 8 with L’as de l’engany, a new zarzuela composed by Alejandro López Román and David Sanz, drawing on texts by Jacinto Benavente and Esteve Soler to spotlight contemporary music.

This edition marks Andorra Lírica's 43rd performance overall. Salvador noted its international reach, with past productions touring Girona, Valencia, Alicante, Verona, and Italian venues, promoting Andorra abroad while showcasing global artists to resonate with local audiences.
