Andorra Launches Tender for Architect to Restore Casa Rossell in Ordino

The Culture Ministry seeks a professional to diagnose structural defects and draft conservation designs for the protected heritage complex, with offers due 18 November.

Key Points

  • The tender covers condition assessment, preliminary and detailed conservation designs, and direction of future works at Casa Rossell in Ordino.
  • The complex includes the main house, tenant farmer's house, two threshing floors, a dovecote and a chapel, with three structures holding top-level heritage protection.
  • The last major conservation work was in 2015, with only ad-hoc maintenance from 2017 to 2023, prompting the need for an updated diagnosis.
  • Movable objects have been removed from the main and tenant farmer's houses; offers are due through the public procurement platform by 18 November at 2pm.

The Culture Ministry has launched a public tender to appoint an architect to prepare the rehabilitation of Casa Rossell in Ordino, one of Andorra's most emblematic heritage sites. The chosen professional will assess the condition of the buildings, identify structural and other defects, and draft both the preliminary and the detailed conservation designs, as well as directing the future works.

The ministry said the aim is to establish the interventions needed to preserve the heritage complex, which comprises the main family house, the tenant farmer's house, two threshing floors, a dovecote and a chapel. The main house, the dovecote and the chapel are listed as Béns d'Interès Cultural in the monument category, the highest level of protection.

The last major conservation work at the property was carried out in 2015, with only ad-hoc maintenance between 2017 and 2023. The ministry says an updated diagnosis is therefore needed to determine the current state of the buildings and define which interventions are required.

The Cultural Heritage department has already removed the movable objects from the main house and the tenant farmer's house, which should ease future works and allow a more precise inspection of the interiors.

Companies and professionals can submit offers through the public sector procurement platform until 18 November at 2pm. The tender envisages an initial analysis and diagnosis phase, followed by the preliminary design and detailed plans that will form the basis of the future rehabilitation and conservation work.
