Encamp is hosting the first Frikiing Days Andorra geek festival from October 9 to 11 at the Complex Esportiu i Sociocultural d’Encamp and La Valireta, attracting enthusiasts of manga, anime, comics, video games, cosplay and role-playing games.
The opening ceremony featured speeches by Encamp’s cònsol menor, Xavier Fernàndez, Culture councillor Joan Sans, and councillors Benjamí Rascagnères, Verònica Solsona and Judit Torres. Guest of honour Claudia Riera, an Andorran actress, also addressed the crowd.
Fernàndez congratulated the Associació de Frikis d’Andorra for the event, saying it complements the parish’s offerings during the low season. He added that such cultural initiatives help desestacionalitzar tourism by drawing visitors with novel proposals and thanked those who travelled to Encamp.
Riera praised the work of organisers Mireia Caldeiro, Míriam Torra, Àlex Puig and Manel Arroyo. She emphasised the value of spaces for sharing passions, calling the festival “a space for everyone, without discrimination, with respect, tolerance, heart and a lot of positive energy”.
The programme includes Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40K tournaments, video game contests, tabletop games, role-playing sessions, cosplay competitions, anime karaoke, art workshops and creator meet-and-greets. Talks address fantasy literature, superheroes, cinema, magic and Japanese culture, with a performance of L’habitació tancada by the Salamandra theatre company.
An exhibition area, networking spaces and food stalls encourage connections among fans and creators. The event closes Sunday with a K-pop concert by RISIN’ STAR, the Orum awards and final remarks.
