Creand Fundació's six-session course in Andorra teaches older adults to use ChatGPT, generate images and audio, with digital security lessons and plans to repeat the programme.

Key Points

  • 18 people enrolled and 25 are on the waiting list for the AI workshop at L'espai de Creand Fundació in Andorra.
  • The course runs six 90-minute sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5 pm until 18 November.
  • Participants learn ChatGPT, AI image creation and retouching, and audio transcription, plus digital security.
  • Creand Fundació plans to repeat a similar course in the first half of next year, with registration from 11 January.

A workshop teaching people over 60 to use artificial intelligence tools has drawn 18 participants at L'espai de Creand Fundació, with a further 25 people on a waiting list.

The course, titled "Learning about artificial intelligence," forms part of the foundation's "Viu en gran" programme. It combines explanations of how these tools work with practical exercises designed to apply the knowledge to everyday situations, aiming to ensure that age is not a barrier to accessing new technology and that older people can take advantage of AI with autonomy and safety.

Xènia Torres, the workshop's instructor, said the initiative responds to the rapid popularisation of a technology that is increasingly present in society but still generates uncertainty among part of the population. "Everyone talks about artificial intelligence and many people use it, but they don't know whether what they're using is AI or not," she said.

The programme consists of six 90-minute sessions held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5 pm until 18 November. Participants learn to use text-generation applications such as ChatGPT, to create and retouch photographs and images with artificial intelligence, and to generate audio transcriptions.

The foundation's aim is for participants not to stop at simply knowing these applications but to learn to use them as a useful everyday tool—from looking up recipes to resolving queries, obtaining information, drafting texts or exploring new creative possibilities.

The workshop brings together very diverse profiles. Some participants have already experimented with AI applications, while others are encountering them for the first time. One user said she already holds conversations with ChatGPT and that the experience encouraged her to sign up to discover other functions and deepen her knowledge of the tool. Torres highlighted the enthusiasm participants show when discovering what they can achieve with these technologies and the satisfaction of creating their own content.

The training also devotes particular attention to digital security, with explanations of the risks of sharing personal information, the limits of artificial intelligence and the precautions needed to use it responsibly.

Interest in the initiative has exceeded the available places. With 18 students enrolled and 25 on the waiting list, Creand Fundació plans to repeat a similar course in the first half of next year. New registrations are expected to open from 11 January, coinciding with the publication of L'espai's new workshop programme. Those interested can sign up by calling 868 025, the only channel enabled for registrations.
