Key Points

  • Andorra allocates €30,000 subsidy for 2026 to reduce Catalan film tickets to €4 at Cinemes Illa Carlemany.
  • Funding promotes official Catalan language via cinema; 2025's €37,500 unused after 5,517 viewers for 21 films.
  • Second round Catalan exams (A1-C2) open registration amid high demand; dates 5-19 June, deadline ~13-20 April.
  • Exams cost €17.15, results 2 July; adaptations available for special needs.

The Andorran government has allocated €30,000 for 2026 to subsidise tickets at Cinemes Illa Carlemany, bringing the price down to €4 for Catalan-language films in original version, dubbed or subtitled. Under a 2023 agreement with the shopping centre's management, the Culture, Youth and Sports ministry will make up the shortfall from regular prices. First revealed during last week's control session, the measure seeks to promote the official language through cultural and leisure activities.

This year's funding falls short of the €37,500 set aside for 2025, which remained unused. Last year saw 21 Catalan films premiere there, attracting 5,517 viewers—a drop from 2024 that echoed trends across other language screenings.

Separately, registration is now open for the second round of official Catalan language exams, spanning levels A1 to C2 on 5, 6, 13 and 19 June. To accommodate high demand after the prior session topped 900 participants—a record—the schedule spreads tests by level: A2 on 5 June, C1 and C2 on 6 June, B1 and B2 on 13 June, and A1 on 19 June.
