The eight-episode series, adapted from Rufi Thorpe's novel of the same name, stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a young aspiring writer who drops out of university and struggles to raise her newborn amid mounting bills and dwindling finances. She is the daughter of a former Hooters waitress, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and a retired professional wrestler portrayed by Nick Offerman. Nicole Kidman also leads the ensemble cast, joined by Thaddea Graham.
The story blends family drama, humour and social commentary as Margo navigates survival and attempts to reshape her life. Produced by acclaimed studio A24, the series is overseen by showrunner and executive producer David E. Kelley, known for *Big Little Lies*, *The Undoing* and *The Lincoln Lawyer*.
