Board games are experiencing sustained growth in Andorra, drawing in young adults and moving beyond family settings despite the prevalence of digital entertainment.
Retailers report steady sales rises in recent years. Antoni Calero, entertainment section manager at FNAC in Andorra la Vella, noted that demand has climbed continuously since the store expanded its board game area two years ago. The Christmas season brought a particular rush, with many shoppers selecting games as gifts. "Christmas was absolute chaos," Calero said.
At FNAC, lighter titles like Virus, La Polilla Tramposa, and La Cuenta saw strong sales. Games appealing to youth and adults—including Dixit, Catan, Ciudadelas, Bang!, Night Out Party, Código Secreto, and Monopoli—also performed well. Calero credited social media influencers and content creators for raising visibility, alongside the growing variety of titles available. He highlighted how these games promote face-to-face socializing—gathering around a table to talk, collaborate, or compete—which appeals to younger people tired of solo screen-based leisure.
Puzzles and wooden models have mirrored this trend. Javier Parra, co-owner of Puzzle Locura, described solid year-round sales that peak during the holidays, attracting dedicated seasonal buyers. Leading puzzle options over Christmas included landscapes, Lilo & Stitch designs, and 3D varieties. Wooden kits, such as a gift factory and pirate ship, proved especially popular.
