Key Points

  • Record 1,020 registrations for second round of official Catalan exams, up 161 from June's 859.
  • Highest demand at B2 (265) and A1 (254) levels.
  • Rising interest in entry levels A1/A2 due to residence permit requirements.
  • Exams scheduled for June 5-19, results on July 2.

The Department of Language Policy has closed registrations for the second round of official Catalan exams, with a record 1,020 participants signed up. The total exceeds the June session's 859 candidates by 161.

Demand was highest at B2 level, attracting 265 registrations, closely followed by A1 with 254. Other levels saw 168 at A2, 117 at B1, 118 at C1, and 98 at C2.

Officials at the department welcomed the figures as a sign of citizens' commitment to formal Catalan certification. They pointed to rising numbers at entry levels A1 and A2, a trend that emerged in January's exams following the Official and Proper Language Law's requirements for minimum proficiency in residence permit renewals.

The exams will take place on 5, 6, 13, and 19 June, depending on the level. Results will appear on the government website on 2 July at 10am. Details are available in the BOPA call notice.
