The Fundació Privada Duran&Martí, based in Tortosa in the Terres de l’Ebre region, and the Universitat Europea in Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra, have signed an academic cooperation agreement to promote symposia on the legal history of the principalities of Catalonia and Andorra.

The pact supports the organisation of the inaugural *Simposi d’Història dels Costums de Tortosa*, an international congress marking the 750th anniversary of the *Costums de Tortosa*. The event is scheduled for autumn 2027 in the Terres de l’Ebre.

The signing ceremony took place at the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce, attended by Lluís Pegueroles Ariño, president of the Duran&Martí Foundation; Antoni Noguero, rector of the Universitat Europea d’Andorra; Tortosa mayor Mar Lleixà; Inés Martí, Amposta councillor for culture, historical memory and tourism; and Josep Serrano, scientific director of the congress and head of the university’s Fiter i Rossell chair. Representatives from the foundation’s board and the regional justice department also participated.

Pegueroles described the non-profit foundation’s mission as promoting the Catalan language and culture alongside humanities and sciences research. He said the partnership would help publicise the content of the *Costums de Tortosa*.

Serrano called the medieval code the most significant in Catalonia, as it governed social life in Tortosa and its territory. He noted it was the first written in Catalan and said the congress would examine its provisions across all areas while comparing it to similar texts from western Europe.

Noguero highlighted the university’s focus on legal and institutional history studies. He described the congress as a compelling historical and legal initiative, emphasising the 13th-century importance of Tortosa and Amposta.

Lleixà and Martí welcomed the project and offered institutional support.
