Escaldes-Engordany is finalising preparations for the 42nd International Jazz Festival, set to run from 2 to 9 July with a municipal budget of around 180,000 euros, matching last year's allocation.
Several high-profile acts have been confirmed through edicts published in the Butlletí Oficial del Principat d’Andorra (BOPA). The latest addition is US jazz and gospel singer Lizz Wright, scheduled for 5 July at a cost of 24,444.44 euros. Other contracts disclosed this week include Project Music Company for concert production and organisation services, priced at 15,555.55 euros.
Already-publicised bookings account for more than 140,000 euros of the municipal funds. These feature Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés performing on 4 July with the Royal Quartet and special guest Paquito de Rivera, for 40,000 euros. US saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman headlines the opening concert on 3 July, with fees of 38,888 euros. The Maria Schneider Orchestra closes the main programme on 8 July, budgeted at 22,000 euros.
The overall budget will incorporate additional contributions from Andorra Turisme, embassies and other sponsors. Organisers expect strong demand, particularly for Valdés's appearance.
