Gualbert Osorio: Dean of Andorran Journalism Honored

Gualbert Osorio, widely regarded as the dean of Andorran journalism, has shaped the Principality's media landscape over decades through his work in radio, television, and print.

Osorio began his career at outlets including Diari de Barcelona, La Mañana de Lleida, Agencia EFE, and La Vanguardia, where he worked from 1978 to 1986. He arrived in Andorra on a temporary assignment but built his professional and personal life in Andorra la Vella, becoming a key figure in local communications.

He served as administrator and final director of the iconic Ràdio Andorra, which closed in 1984. The following year, alongside Josep Rabadà, he co-founded Ràdio Valira, leading it as president and director general until 2005. From 2005 to 2008, he directed Andorra's public broadcaster, RTVA. Osorio also helped establish *Diari d'Andorra*, addressing the need for professional, Andorra-centric reporting.

His contributions extend to two books: *Radio Andorra, la història d’un mite que va fer història* (Crèdit Andorrà, 2013) and *Ràdio Valira, els vint anys* (Anem editors, 2025). These volumes chronicle Andorra's recent history, from Ràdio Andorra's closure to the country's path toward modernity.

Recently, Osorio received the Àgora Cultural award. Journalist Noemí Rodríguez, in her tribute, praised his blend of irony and tenderness in observing reality, and his commitment to authentic journalism that observes, listens, verifies, and explains through tough questions and honest answers.

Colleagues credit him with instilling rigor and demanding standards across generations, helping forge Andorra's fourth estate. Beyond media, he has supported the Andorran Swimming Federation and Special Olympics Andorra.

Known for unsolicited yet warmly delivered advice—such as reminding writers that their work might soon line a floor—Osorio embodies humility. Patient, analytical, and energetic, he shuns the spotlight, much like a Hitchcock cameo, convinced that all fades with time.
