Twenty-one second-year ESO students from Ibiza's Institut Balàfia began a five-day school exchange in Andorra this Friday, hosted by Col·legi Sant Ermengol.

The programme, launched by the two schools, focuses on educational, cultural and social immersion. The Ibiza students are exploring the Principality, using Catalan in daily interactions and forming ties with Andorran classmates through intercultural activities. Highlights include leisure and cultural outings such as a trip to Naturland, plus stays with host families.

The exchange carries institutional weight. On Monday, the visitors will be greeted at the Andorran school by Albert Maluquer, director of Andorra's Educational Systems, and Dolores López, education counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Andorra.

The stay wraps up with joint involvement in the Xocolatada Solidària, a charitable hot chocolate event raising funds for Barcelona's Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

The initiative seeks to deepen awareness of each territory's linguistic and cultural traits, foster personal connections among students and build social, communication and intercultural competencies.

Andorran students will reciprocate with a trip to Ibiza from 8 to 12 May, rounding out the bilateral experience.
