Movistar Plus+ Launches Grisham's The Rainmaker TV Series Legítima Defensa

Movistar Plus+ has launched *Legítima defensa*, a TV adaptation of John Grisham's 1995 novel *The Rainmaker*, which Francis Ford Coppola previously brought to cinemas in 1997.

The series expands the original story, delving deeper into its characters and legal battles. It premiered last August on USA Network in the United States and is now available in full on the Spanish streaming platform, with all 10 episodes of its single season released at once.

At the centre is Rudy Baylor, a newly qualified lawyer played by Milo Callaghan. Fresh out of law school, he joins a small firm and takes on his first major case alongside his charismatic but unpredictable boss, Jocelyn Stone, and the unconventional yet effective legal assistant Deck Shifflet.

The trio handles a medical negligence claim involving the death of a client's son in hospital, which implicates an insurance company's practices. As their probe unfolds, it uncovers a larger web of economic interests and external pressures that extend far beyond the courtroom.

Baylor must confront a formidable rival firm led by the aggressive, seasoned attorney Leo Drummond, who embodies the influence of big money in the US legal system.

The cast also features Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, and P.J. Byrne. Blending a steady pace with classic courtroom thriller elements, the show updates the familiar narrative for modern TV audiences, highlighting ethical dilemmas, power imbalances, and the personal toll of challenging an seemingly invincible establishment.
