Netflix has announced the release details for *Mi querida señorita*, a new film directed by Fernando González Molina and written by Alana S. Portero. Produced by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi through their company Suma Content, the movie will hit cinemas on 17 April before streaming on the platform from 1 May.
Elisabeth Martínez makes her big-screen debut as Adela, the young lead character from a conservative family. She spends her days helping in the family antiques shop and teaching catechism classes, all under her mother's protective shadow. Adela remains unaware of her intersex condition, which shapes her life in subtle ways.
The story unfolds as new relationships challenge her world: a friendship with a newly arrived priest, the return of a childhood friend, and the arrival of Isabel. These encounters spark a chain of events that send Adela on a journey of self-discovery from Pamplona to Madrid, where love and support help her embrace her identity.
Joining Martínez in the cast are Anna Castillo, Paco León, Nagore Aranburu, Manu Ríos, Eneko Sagardoy, Lola Rodríguez, María Galiana, and Delphina Bianco. The film features an original song by Zahara, composed specifically for it, along with a score by Álex de Lucas and Zahara.
This production loosely adapts the 1972 film of the same name, directed by Jaime de Armiñán and starring José Luis López Vázquez, with a screenplay by José Luis Borau and Armiñán. That version earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
The world premiere took place on 8 March in the Official Competition section of the 29th Málaga Film Festival, drawing critics and cinema fans to celebrate the modern take. A teaser and official poster have also been released.
