La SAC reissues Antoni Morell's Percepcions d'Andorra ahead of Massana presentation

The Andorran publishing house La SAC has reissued Percepcions d'Andorra, a short book co‑written by Antoni Morell and jurist Pere Figuereda that challenges common clichés about contemporary Andorra in fifteen brief essays. The new edition will be presented tomorrow at the Biblioteca Comunal de la Massana.

Originally published in 2013 as a bibliophile edition, the title is now being returned to commercial circulation; the reprint preserves the original structure of concise reflections on the country’s image and present‑day dilemmas.

The release comes as the community approaches the fifth anniversary of Morell’s death on 5 January. Morell, author of Set lletanies de mort, Borís I and La neu adversa, often remarked that Andorra tends to forget its dead quickly: public attention, he argued, moves on after the funeral and the lasting significance of some figures is not adequately conveyed.

Public remembrance of Morell has been uneven. After the farewell at Sant Iscle, attention waned; a programme of commemorative events organised by the Ministry of Culture coincided with the pandemic and later resumed only modestly. A proposed memorial sculpture in Plaça de les Arcades, promoted by sculptor Xavi Fernández, failed to gain the necessary support and did not come to fruition; Fernández has since died.

The Biblioteca Comunal de la Massana received a donation of Morell’s papers, which include previously unseen manuscripts such as Mort, qui t'ha mort?, a partly drafted memoir titled Casa de la memòria, and a work presented as a spinoff of Borís I. The reappearance of Percepcions d'Andorra on the library’s shelves and in bookshops is being welcomed by readers and cultural observers as a timely recovery of Morell’s voice.
