Sant Julià cultural centre on track for spring despite façade halt
Municipal government says reconstruction remains scheduled for April–May and a possible opening at the Canòlich festival despite a temporary pause.
Key Points
- Timetable unchanged: reconstruction expected by April–May, with a possible opening at the Canòlich festival.
- Council approved budget transfers to cover ongoing construction payments.
- Façade work paused after a mounted metal piece detached; audit and material tests are underway.
- Funds shifted to complete auditoriums first; authorities say pause shouldn’t affect overall schedule.
The Sant Julià municipal government says it has not changed the timetable for the reconstruction and remodelling of the cultural centre. Work is currently focused on improving the auditoriums and redesigning the façade, and officials expect those tasks to be finished by next spring, around April or May, making it possible the whole facility could open around the Canòlich festival.
In its most recent council session, the administration approved a series of budget transfers to cover payments for the ongoing works.
Façade work has been paused after a mounted metal piece detached during installation, prompting an audit to determine the cause. The probe and material tests are still under way; the detachment could be due to improper handling or a material defect. While the results are pending, no further work has been carried out on the façade.
The municipal government says the pause should not affect the overall schedule because funds that had been split between the façade and the auditoriums are now concentrated on the auditoriums. By the time façade work can resume, much of the auditorium work is expected to be complete, allowing a larger share of resources to be directed to the façade that faces Plaça de la Germandat.
