Andorra's electricity production facilities have increased from 31 to 559 over the past decade, fueled primarily by the rapid rise in solar photovoltaic installations, according to data from the Office of Energy and Climate Change.
Figures updated on 13 May reveal a total installed capacity of 75.10 MW, up from 52.84 MW generated by the earlier 31 facilities. Hydropower remains the leading technology, with five plants delivering 49.21 MW, or 65.5% of capacity. The 552 photovoltaic sites contribute 20.09 MW (26.7%), while cogeneration at Ctrasa's waste treatment plant adds 4 MW (5.3%) and Soldeu provides 1.80 MW (2.4%).
Last year's total output reached 126,004 MWh, covering 21.94% of demand while imports supplied 78.06%. Hydropower accounted for 87,929 MWh, photovoltaics for 16,061 MWh, Ctrasa cogeneration for 16,707 MWh, and Soldeu for 5,305 MWh.
This growth, especially in self-consumption solar systems, aligns with government targets of 33% local production by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
