30 La Massana Pupils Plant 800 Flowers Using Compost Fertiliser in Eco-Education Drive

Around 30 pupils from La Massana's three school systems—the Andorran school, French school, and Àgora International School—took part in a practical planting session on Monday. Acting as eco-delegates, the children, accompanied by Comú technicians and three godparents from the Social Gardens programme, planted about 800 seasonal flowers in the Ravell area. The flowers included surfinias, dahlias, begonias, sweet williams, and pinks.

The hands-on activity formed part of the parish's two-year-old composting education campaign, aimed at teaching both children and older participants the full cycle of managing organic waste. They used natural fertiliser produced at the Horts de la Gent Gran composters, demonstrating how the process comes full circle from waste collection and sorting to application.

Public Roads Councillor Marcio da Costa said the seasonal plantings supplement the parish's mainly perennial public greenery, especially for the Andoflora event. "Spring additions help keep spaces looking their best," he explained.

Minor Consul Roger Fité emphasised the educational value for participants in the Social Gardens. "They learn the entire composting process, and today's planting showed them the results firsthand," he noted.

The Comú de la Massana continues to offer a community composting pilot for residents to separate organic waste, as well as a domestic composter programme to produce homemade fertiliser.
