Andorra Records Hottest Spring Since 1950 with 11.4°C Average and Extreme Weather

Andorra has recorded its hottest spring since measurements began in 1950, with average temperatures at the FEDA hydroelectric plant reaching 11.4°C—two degrees above the long-term average—according to the Climate Action department's latest bulletin.

This season surpasses previous highs from 2023 and 2020. April set a new record as the warmest since 1950, while March was mildly above average and May also exceeded typical levels. Between April and May, roughly one in three days featured temperature anomalies exceeding five degrees, with intense periods from 4-11 April and 21-31 May.

Precipitation totaled 175.1 mm across 43 rainy days at FEDA, falling short of the seasonal norm despite frequent showers. The highest totals reached 282.8 mm at Perafita, while Borda Vidal and Margineda logged the lowest at 139.3 mm. Standout events included 37.5 mm in 24 hours at Ransol and 34.8 mm at Bony de les Neres on 1 April, which delivered snow to higher elevations, along with more than 20 mm at FEDA and Perafita on 5 March.

Winds were prominent, particularly in March, with the season's strongest gust of 190 km/h at Fonts d'Arinsal on 15 March. Further notable blows included 107 km/h at Roc de Sant Pere on 26 March—creating a chill despite warming trends—and 171 km/h at Tosa dels Espiolets in Soldeu during April.

Snowpack started spring near the 70th percentile but fell below the 50th after rising temperatures and sunlight around 19 March. Late March and early April winds and rain briefly lifted it above the 70th, yet the absence of heavy spring snowfalls sped up melting across the mountains.
