Canillo Council Approves Cable Car Deals and Urban Garden Lease

Canillo parish council has approved six agreements advancing the cable car project between the village and l'Armiana, alongside the previously announced 10-year lease for a new urban garden near the CG-2 roundabout by Hotel Bonavida.

The cable car deals, ratified on Thursday, include four sales promises, two overflight easements, and one anticipatory urban cession. A key purchase involves a 97,527-euro plot at the future station's arrival zone, described by council leader Jordi Alcobé as the most important so far. This land will support infrastructure passage, visitor services, emergency facilities, and possibly a viewpoint, while bolstering communal heritage near the l'Armiana path.

The council also greenlit an extraordinary credit to fund these acquisitions. Six of eight affected landowners have now agreed to various arrangements, enabling progress on land reservations and safety measures. However, two owners remain opposed. Alcobé acknowledged "considerable opposition and hostility" toward the deals, adding that resolution does not seem straightforward. "We always have confidence, but that doesn't mean it will be achieved," he said. The council has not yet considered alternatives beyond negotiation.

Alcobé emphasised the project's public interest, noting it would cut bus traffic to Pont Tibetà, lower emissions, and boost parish tourism. He stressed Canillo must defend parochial, general, and public interests.

These steps form part of a broader territorial strategy enhancing mobility, public spaces, and resident quality of life, including new green areas and connections between Canillo village and l'Armiana.

Separately, the urban garden lease with landowner Magda Marquet secures a 2,000-square-metre plot west of the main road for €2,000 monthly. The space will feature fountains, benches, dry-stone walls, an emblematic village washhouse, and lighting, with paths linking the road to the old town and Prat de Branqueta works. It will also allow roundabout expansion for better road safety. Conditioning is slated before autumn for partial use, with full completion by next spring. No project budget has been set. Alcobé reiterated the council's efforts, aiming for a "dignified, well-designed" outcome without excessive investment on leased land.
