The Comú de Canillo has launched a public contest to select the design, production, and installation of an artistic mural on a barn at the exit of Vall d’Incles. The project aims to highlight this key location, enhance its landscape integration, and create a landmark that celebrates the valley’s natural and cultural heritage, as well as that of the parish as a whole.
Open to Andorran residents over 18, the contest welcomes both professional and amateur artists who can provide a portfolio demonstrating their experience. Participants must submit a sketch of the mural, a simulation of the design on the facade, an explanatory report, a list of planned materials, and their portfolio. Administrative and technical documents will be submitted separately via the Vortal platform to ensure anonymity during evaluation.
Councillor for Citizen Participation, Communication, and Innovation Coia Torres said the initiative seeks to transform a mere passage area into an attraction that strengthens Vall d’Incles’ identity and encourages locals and visitors to explore its heritage. She added that it offers a chance to showcase national artistic talent and involve the public in choosing a work that will become part of the parish landscape.
Proposals will be scored out of 100 points. A jury comprising experts from the Culture and Traditions, Tourist and Commercial Promotion, Works and Beautification, and Citizen Participation, Communication, and Innovation departments will award up to 90 points based on artistic quality and creativity (35 points), environmental integration and thematic fit (25 points), technical feasibility (20 points), and materials and durability (10 points). The remaining 10 points come from a public vote on the Comú’s Instagram account, @canillo_andorra.
The winning entry receives a €3,000 prize covering design, materials, and full execution. Payment is split: 50% upon selection and 50% after completion and approval. Submissions close on 15 July at 2pm, with jury evaluation on 16 July, public voting and winner announcement on 17 July, and execution required between 17 and 31 July.
The mural should draw on Vall d’Incles’ identity, including traditional crafts, farming and livestock, mountain life, ethnographic heritage, local flora and fauna, and natural landscapes. Designs evoking memories of the visit or a symbolic farewell message will be viewed favourably, given the site’s high visibility to departing visitors.
