Andorra Issues Orange Alert for Extreme Heat Until Tomorrow Evening

Andorra's meteorological service has activated a yellow alert for thunderstorms from 6pm until midnight today, while maintaining the orange alert for extreme heat until 9pm.

Hazy skies from suspended dust will persist amid very warm conditions, with highs reaching 35°C in Andorra la Vella and 30°C at 1,500 metres. Some thunderstorms may form in the Catalan Pyrenees during the afternoon and affect Andorra in the evening, marking the end of the current heatwave.

Temperatures will drop significantly from tomorrow, with maxima not exceeding 28°C in the capital or 24°C at 1,500 metres. Thunderstorm showers are expected again in the afternoon, mainly in the north of the country. Conditions will stabilise over the weekend before rising above 30°C early next week.

The orange alert stems from a persistent anticyclonic ridge pushing temperatures well above seasonal norms. Last night saw a tropical night in Andorra la Vella with a low of 20.1°C. Today's minima are forecast at 19°C in the capital, 12°C at 1,500 metres and 14°C in Pas de la Casa, under mostly clear skies with light southwesterly winds.
