Pas de la Casa Demands Probe into Encamp Flood Causes

Residents and businesses in Pas de la Casa are urging Encamp council to provide swift aid and investigate the causes of Saturday's flash floods, as opposition group Avancem joins calls for support to the affected commercial sector.

Agrupament Encampadà has demanded a thorough review of whether roadworks on Avinguda d'Encamp or ski slope maintenance worsened the impacts, rejecting the council's view that debris from the slopes was the sole factor. The group highlighted that heavy rain fell across Pas de la Casa without comparable damage elsewhere, and called for accountability from the avenue's construction firm and state roads operator SAETDE if negligence contributed.

Avancem, the two-member minority linked to the Partit Socialdemòcrata and holding seats on the council, echoed these concerns in a statement. It pressed the council to act with speed and efficiency to resolve damage and offer necessary assistance to Pas de la Casa's commercial and social fabric. The group noted that impacts stemmed mainly from soil and stones washed down from the ski areas, but suggested more could have been done to anticipate and mitigate the storm's effects—compounded by ongoing avenue renovations. Without pointing fingers at natural causes, Avancem criticised the majority for consistently overlooking local needs and giving evasive responses to opposition queries.

Saturday's intense rain caused a sewer blockage, minor flooding at a Carrer Major pharmacy, and water damage to a restaurant terrace. Firefighters, council crews, and the COEX emergency unit cleared mud, debris, and blockages from slope runoff, containing the incident despite widespread downpours. Public lighting on Carrer Major remained out that evening, though the street was cleared. Agrupament Encampadà thanked responders while seeking preventive measures. Council officials insist slope debris—not the avenue project—was responsible. Further storms are forecast.
