Encamp Council Launches €205K Funicamp Square Waterproofing Renovation

Encamp council has launched a €205,689.37 renovation project at Funicamp square to address leaks impacting lower levels over recent years, handing the contract to Construccions Purroy.

The works target around 500 square metres, replacing the current waterproofing with a continuous hot-sprayed polyurethane system across concrete structures and the metal bridge over the Aixec river. This jointless, flexible coating adapts to structural movements and simplifies upkeep.

Phased execution will ensure a safe pedestrian path and uninterrupted access to the Funicamp car park, with dust and noise controls in this busy commercial area. The project follows the summer season and should wrap up within two months, ahead of winter, without hindering Funicamp operations.

Crews have started by removing the granite paving, intermediate layers, and old waterproofing, followed by surface preparation and cleaning. After applying the new layer, about 85% of the square will receive an asphalt base topped with printed asphalt. Remaining sections will retain wooden decking and rubber surfacing.

The initiative also improves entry to the Tourist Office, which stays in place but gains a more comfortable and accessible approach. Full scope encompasses demolition, support fixes, waterproofing, resurfacing, and final leak tests.
