Third Small Vegetation Fire Hits La Massana Amid Arson Suspicions

Police in La Massana continue investigating a series of small vegetation fires in the parish, with a third incident reported on Sunday afternoon near the football pitch on the outskirts of the town.

Firefighters from the Massana station received an alert around 4pm after smoke and embers were spotted in scrubland close to the pitch. A single crew quickly extinguished the flames, preventing any spread to nearby vegetation or structures and causing no significant damage.

This follows a second fire on Saturday afternoon in the same area of Sispony that burned just over a week ago. That earlier blaze, reported around 6:45pm last Saturday, affected a substantial stretch of land—short of one hectare—and required two fire trucks and nearly two hours to control after multiple calls from residents about a large smoke plume.

The Sispony fire on Saturday was minor, with crews extinguishing it promptly after the 4pm alert.

Authorities suspect possible links between the incidents, including evidence pointing to arson in some cases, though no causes have been confirmed. Police have intensified patrols in Sispony and dispatched specialists to collect evidence from all sites, aiming to determine connections or rule them out.

A separate report of smouldering embers—prevented from igniting—emerged Sunday around 4pm along the CG-4 road near number 30 in Erts, between the carriageway and the river. Firefighters dampened the embers without impact on surrounding areas, and police responded immediately.

Local residents and parish officials express growing concern over the repeated blazes, but urge caution pending further findings. The investigation remains open.
