Andorra Endavant Questions Government on Major Forest Fire Preparedness

Andorra Endavant has announced it will use its first oral question to the government during September's control session to probe the Principality's preparedness for a large-scale forest fire.

The party, led by Carine Montaner, cited ongoing summer wildfires across regions of Spain, France and other parts of Europe as the impetus for the move. In a statement, it argued that public authorities must anticipate risks before they turn into tragedies, adding that "governing means anticipating" and preparing in advance is the best way to protect residents.

Lawmakers want to know if Andorra has an integral, updated and fully operational plan for managing a major blaze. They are seeking assurances on available human, material, water and logistical resources, including whether water intake points are adequate.

The question will also address population evacuation protocols, identification of high-risk areas, and the fire service's staffing and equipment levels. It extends to coordination arrangements with local communes and authorities in Spain and France for potential rapid deployment of ground or air support.

Andorra Endavant emphasised proactive steps over reactive responses, aiming to promote a culture of prevention and gain transparent insight into current readiness. The party views such events as increasingly probable amid rising temperatures, drought episodes and changing climate conditions.

Covering 468 square kilometres of forested terrain, complex topography and urban areas amid woods, the country faces elevated wildfire threats, experts note. Despite the parliamentary summer recess, Andorra Endavant plans to develop further initiatives. The executive must respond in the upcoming session.
