Storm Fells Tree Branch onto Parked Cars in Andorra la Vella

A powerful afternoon storm caused a large tree branch to fall onto parked vehicles in the outdoor car parks between Valira and Illa Carlemany on Carrer de la Valira in Andorra la Vella.

Firefighters received the alert at 6pm on Tuesday and initially dispatched a team to assess the situation at the private Illa Carlemany parking area. After evaluation, they requested a ladder truck to access the tree's upper sections. Personnel pruned the damaged branches at risk of further falls and secured the tree to prevent additional incidents amid the heavy rain.

The branch struck the bonnet of a foreign-registered car, causing material damage. Other nearby vehicles sustained lesser impacts or none at all. Efforts located Andorran owners promptly, while foreign drivers took longer to trace. Some affected cars were towed to safer spots under the trees and marked with notices outlining the damage.

Andorra la Vella traffic officers led the response, supported by firefighters and staff from the adjacent shopping centre, which oversees part of the site. The area was cordoned off with a strong police presence, including a fire truck and aerial platform, to ensure public safety.

Hygiene department teams from the capital's commune stood ready for cleanup once pruning finished. No injuries occurred despite the stormy conditions.
