Encamp Council Installs Solar Panels on Sports Complex and Nursery

Encamp parish council has started installing solar panels on the roofs of its Sports and Cultural Complex and nursery school. The initiative will produce electricity via photovoltaic panels and thermal energy through flat-plate collectors, using existing roof areas to enhance public facility efficiency and promote renewables.

Sideco SL secured the €692,440.59 contract, with a five-month completion target. The setup is expected to yield 390,000 kWh annually, meeting roughly 35% of the complex's electricity needs and 35% to 40% of its hot water demand.

Local officials expect the project to cut external energy dependence, fossil fuel consumption, emissions, and long-term costs. Technical studies forecast an investment payback in eight to nine years.

The effort supports Encamp's drive to upgrade energy performance in public structures and ties into Andorra's Energy Transition and Climate Change Promotion Law (LITECC), which prioritizes conservation, renovations, and renewable sources.

It follows earlier measures, such as switching public and communal lighting to LEDs with motion sensors, and introducing aerothermal heating systems in select buildings.
