Encamp Council Installs Solar Panels on Sports Complex and Nursery

Encamp parish council has begun installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of its Sports and Cultural Complex and nursery school. The project aims to generate electricity and thermal energy using existing roof spaces, cutting reliance on outside energy sources.

Contracted to Sideco SL for €692,440.59, the work carries a five-month deadline. It features photovoltaic panels for power production and flat-plate collectors for heat. Estimates project an annual output of 390,000 kWh, covering about 35% of the complex's electricity demand and 35% to 40% of its hot water requirements.

Council officials anticipate lower fossil fuel use, reduced emissions, and savings on energy bills over time. Technical assessments point to an investment return in eight to nine years, driven by efficiency gains.

This initiative fits Encamp's push to improve energy performance in public buildings and expand renewable use. It aligns with Andorra's Energy Transition and Climate Change Promotion Law (LITECC), which emphasizes conservation, building upgrades, and renewables in that order.

The installation builds on prior steps, including LED upgrades with motion sensors for public lighting and communal buildings, plus aerothermal systems in certain facilities.
