Key Points

  • Mini woodland created on Camí del Cresper, covering roughly 100 square metres
  • Planted with native oaks, larches and pines to support biodiversity
  • Project led by APAPMA with citizen participation on land from Comú d’Encamp
  • APAPMA calls this a first step and will continue restoring natural spaces

Encamp now has its first mini urban woodland after the planting work was completed this week. The Association for the Protection of Animals, Plants and the Environment (APAPMA) said the trees have been installed and that the community must now wait for spring for the new stand to begin flowering and taking shape.

The initiative was carried out with citizen participation on land granted by the Comú d’Encamp. APAPMA thanked everyone involved, saying the project has created “a small lung” within the urban area that belongs to the whole community.

The urban wood, located on Camí del Cresper and directly accessible from the town, occupies roughly 100 square metres and has been planted with native species including oaks, larches and pines. The aim is to regenerate a parcel that had previously been deforested and to introduce pockets of nature into the built environment to support biodiversity and environmental health.

APAPMA described the planting as a first step and said it will continue working to repopulate and restore natural spaces in the area. The creation of urban woodlands is presented as one of several measures to promote sustainability and biodiversity in the region.
