Encamp Parish Council has launched the second edition of its Nature Survival Adventure in Grau Roig, adding an extra weekend of sessions to the programme following strong demand from last year.
Presented on Wednesday, the activity equips participants with core mountain survival skills and promotes greater appreciation for Andorra's natural surroundings. Skills covered include primitive fire-starting, navigation by stars, sun and compass, basic first aid, and water treatment for safe drinking in remote areas.
Instructor and mountain guide Juanjo Sánchez outlined the priorities: staying alive through techniques such as regulating body temperature, finding shelter from wind, efficiently alerting the 112 emergency service with location details, and preserving internal hydration. "There's so much to explore—it's truly captivating," he said.
Sánchez pointed out a common gap among locals: while many know the mountains well, they often lack targeted emergency skills. "They understand the landscape, but in a real crisis, they might miss the practical tools," he noted.
Tourism and Communication Councillor Verònica Solsona highlighted Andorra's alpine identity: "As a mountain nation, everyone here should know how to make a fire. We need to learn from nature, respect and protect it—these experiences bring real added value." She described the programme as a distinctive offering amid rising interest in survival activities, driven by last year's 9.5 participant rating that justified the expansion, including one more overnight session to support sustainable tourism.
The schedule includes three two-day sessions on 27-28 June, 11-12 July, and 25-26 July, plus two 10-hour single-day options on 4 July and 18 July. Each is limited to 40 participants.
Fees remain unchanged from last year at €45 for adults and €20 for children on two-day courses, or €20 for adults and €10 for children on one-day sessions. Those aged 16 and over may attend alone with signed parental authorisation.
Solsona recommended prompt registration through the parish website, as spots sold out rapidly previously.
