Journalist Christian García and Olympic athlete Albert Llovera recounted their journeys of overcoming severe health and career challenges during Thursday's Conferències 360º event at the Biblioteca d'Escaldes-Engordany. The session focused on "Turning Adversities into Opportunities," highlighting how unexpected setbacks can spark personal growth and reinvention.

García described a degenerative condition in his macula that struck without warning, prompting him to rethink his approach to life. The illness compelled him to reframe difficulties as real pathways to change, adopting a deeper way of observing the world. "If you look at life in a different way—more than just seeing it, you observe, analyse, add up, and touch. That way, you also learn to look at adversities differently, giving importance to what really deserves it and taking it away from what doesn't," he said.

Llovera, who has competed in sports for more than 30 years, spoke of repeatedly adapting after an accident altered his path. He portrayed inevitable obstacles as chances to learn and evolve, shifting between disciplines to stay active. Without the incident, he suggested, he might have transitioned earlier to coaching or a federation role. The challenge instead allowed him to keep competing while mentoring younger athletes and sharing his enthusiasm for sport. "What we have to do is wake up, move, and push forward with whatever problem we have. Everything that can be recovered, we must keep fighting and learning from each experience," Llovera said.

Both speakers stressed redefining oneself, embracing perseverance, and viewing hardships as engines for transformation, offering attendees insights into resilience amid life's unpredictability.
