The Servei Andorrà d’Atenció Sanitària (SAAS) has appointed Dr. Marc Pascual Pich as the new medical director of Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell.

A specialist in internal medicine and until recently the clinical coordinator of the Palliative Care Unit, Pascual will report to the SAAS’s assistant director, Dr. Marcos Gutiérrez. Sources differ on the exact start date: some indicate it took effect on Monday, while others point to 11 May.

Pascual’s main responsibilities include driving forward strategic projects and innovation initiatives set by SAAS leadership. He will adapt these to hospital operations, aiming to enhance care processes and elevate standards in patient management.

His duties cover planning and coordinating human, technical, and financial resources for services under his oversight. He will also develop and monitor functional plans and care protocols, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and performance indicators.

SAAS states that establishing this medical director role will allow the assistant directorate to focus on outlining strategic priorities. It will also handle establishing, reviewing, and tracking national and international agreements with tertiary-level hospitals, along with overseeing related patient pathways.

The position had remained vacant for some time before this appointment.
