Andorra Launches Muvity Remote Physio Pilot for Elderly in Red Cross Centres

A six-month trial introduces gamified remote physiotherapy at Andorran Red Cross day centres, targeting elderly rehabilitation with personalised plans and peer encouragement to boost engagement and outcomes.

Key Points

  • AR+I and Red Cross deploy Muvity's gamified tool across four day centres: Cencra, Paraires, Valls del Nord, Centre Major.
  • Tailored exercise plans for all rehab users, with group sessions for peer support to reduce dropouts.
  • Pilot from Andorra Living Lab Challenge tests scalability amid population ageing.
  • Aims to measure quality-of-life gains and inform national innovation rollout.

Andorra Recerca i Innovació (AR+I) has launched a six-month pilot programme in partnership with the Andorran Red Cross, deploying Muvity's remote physiotherapy tool across the organisation's four day centres to support elderly users' rehabilitation.

The centres involved are Cencra in Andorra la Vella, Paraires in Escaldes-Engordany, Valls del Nord in La Massana, and Centre Major in Sant Julià de Lòria. All users requiring rehabilitation can join, with Red Cross specialists creating tailored exercise itineraries based on individual assessments.

Muvity's system uses gamification to make recovery exercises more dynamic and approachable. It supports group sessions where peers offer emotional encouragement—drawing from successful trials in Catalonia—aiming to lower dropout rates by fostering a supportive environment.

The project emerged as one of two winners from last year's first Andorra Living Lab Challenge, within the Andorra Living Lab framework. AR+I positions it as a practical example of connecting startups, institutions, professionals, and end-users to test innovations in real settings. The Red Cross serves as a key strategic partner, providing clinical expertise, professional oversight, and access to authentic validation environments.

Organisers seek concrete data on improvements to elderly users' quality of life, alongside evaluations of scalability and potential for broader adoption across Andorra. This aligns with AR+I's efforts under the National Plan for Innovation and Economic Diversification, addressing challenges such as population ageing. Findings will guide decisions on future rollout.
