Firefighters carried out several mountain rescues in Andorra over the weekend, airlifting injured hikers and cyclists from remote trails, bike parks and race routes.
Among the operations, Bombers rescued a 41-year-old tourist on Sunday evening at the Tibetan bridge in Cortals d'Encamp. The alert came in at 6:45pm for knee pain that stopped him from continuing his route. An ambulance with three personnel from the Canillo station was dispatched, but his condition and the location called for helicopter extraction using a hoist. He was taken directly to Nostra Senyora de Meritxell Hospital.
Earlier that day at 10:30am, a runner suffered a knee laceration during the Travessa Pas de la Casa mountain race at Estany de les Abelletes. Firefighters provided on-site treatment before ambulance transfer to the Pas de la Casa medical centre.
Two incidents at Pal Bike Park on Sunday morning left a young man with multiple traumas at 11:45am and a woman injured from a fall at 1:40pm. Grup de Rescat de Muntanya teams, including a nurse, stabilised both for helicopter evacuation to Nostra Senyora de Meritxell Hospital.
On Friday, specialists extracted a woman from Juclà lakes around 12:22pm due to knee pain. Later at 3:52pm, a 33-year-old tourist fractured her tibia and fibula on a trail near Tristaina lakes by Arcalís. An ambulance reached her 200 metres from the road, but she could not move, requiring GRM helicopter assistance with help from her companion and a nurse for hospital transfer.
