Andorra's bone marrow donor programme has registered more than 700 potential donors since launching in 2021, the government noted ahead of World Bone Marrow Donor Day on 22 September.
In a statement marking the occasion, authorities praised the public's response and emphasised the donation's importance in treating serious blood conditions such as certain leukaemias, lymphomas and other haematological diseases. Haematopoietic stem cell transplants rely on compatible matches, with each new registrant improving the odds for patients.
Healthy individuals aged 18 to 40 qualify to join the register, where they remain available as potential donors until 60. Registration begins via the programme's website at https://andorra.medullaossia.org or at Andorran Red Cross blood drives, with final steps managed by the Donor Attention Point at the Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS).
The government thanked current registrants for their commitment and encouraged eligible residents to explore how they could provide a vital lifeline to those awaiting transplants.
