Andorra's 14th Cursa de la Dona Targets €10,500 for Chemotherapy Hair Loss Prevention

The 14th Cursa de la Dona, organised by the Andorran Women's Association (ADA), expects up to 700 participants at its event on 13 September, with organisers aiming to raise €8,000 towards a €22,000 Paxman scalp cooling system for the Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS). The device cools the scalp to help prevent hair loss in chemotherapy patients.

Sponsored mainly by MoraBanc Assegurances, the race starts and finishes at Avinguda Meritxell 96 at 11.30am. It features a flat 5km competitive route—homologated by the Andorran Athletics Federation, counting towards the women's absolute 5K national championship, and open to those with federation membership or a free race licence—and a 2.5km walk accessible to everyone. The course heads to the Lycée and returns, remaining largely unchanged and suitable for competition, though the later timing may bring warmer conditions requiring added hydration efforts.

Entry costs €15, with €5 per participant going directly to the project, alongside 60% of any surplus and donations via a dedicated Bizum line for non-runners. ADA president Elvira Geli explained the shift from June to avoid summer clashes and increase turnout. She highlighted past initiatives funded by the race: Xemio, an app tracking breast cancer patients; MediBrest, a research and nutrition project; and now Paxman.

Federation president Josep Maria Missé praised the event's promotion of women's sport. Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell, along with representatives from Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany communes, stressed its value for charity and healthy lifestyles through exercise. Support also includes Civil Protection, traffic services and volunteers.

The race forms part of the third year of ADA-SAAS breast cancer collaboration. Inscriptions and bib collection take place at Mora Assegurances' Passatge Europa office before the event; details are on the official website.
