Andorra's Assandca Walk Against Cancer Targets Record 1,600 Participants
Organisers aim to exceed last year's 1,300 participants and €6,000 raised through T-shirt sales to support vital services amid funding challenges. The free event starts at Uailo shopping centre.
Key Points
- 13th Assandca Walk set for 25 October in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, 3.7-4 km route.
- Needs €65,000-€70,000 yearly for cancer patient services like psychological support, transport, yoga.
- Last year raised €5,000-€6,000 via 1,300 T-shirts; all proceeds fund services.
- Open to all, no fee; under government's Mou-te programme with Uailo as sponsor.
The 13th Assandca Walk Against Cancer will take place on 25 October, with organisers targeting more than 1,600 participants to break the event's record while addressing the association's ongoing funding needs.
Assandca president Josep Saravia outlined the plans, noting that the group requires €65,000 to €70,000 annually to sustain services for cancer patients and their families, including psychological support, medical transport, awareness campaigns, accompaniment, and recently added activities like yoga. The association, which has around 140 to 150 members making yearly contributions, described securing stable funding as "not straightforward," with T-shirt sales from the walk providing a key boost—all proceeds will fund these services directly, as in past years.
Last year's event sold about 1,300 T-shirts and raised between €5,000 and €6,000. This edition features a 3.7-to-4 km urban route through Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany streets, starting and finishing at Avinguda Meritxell in front of the Uailo shopping centre, the new title sponsor. T-shirts are available on the centre's third-floor customer service desk.
Participation remains open to all without paid registration. Saravia stressed the event's dual aim: raising funds and demonstrating public support for those affected. To avoid overlap with another walk, Assandca's initiative now falls under the government's Mou-te programme; a planned 19 October event has been cancelled, with official backing shifting to the 25 October date.
Further details on registration and activities will follow.
