The Ministry of Health and Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS) have launched a redesigned version of the Andorra Salut app, featuring improved navigation and new tools to boost patient autonomy and cut down on unnecessary doctor visits from expired referrals or overlooked tests.

Health Minister Helena Mas called the update a "qualitative leap" that puts users at the system's centre. Presenters including SAAS Director General Dr. Meritxell Cosan and IT chief Santiago Sánchez highlighted how the changes respond to user and professional feedback, aiming for ongoing enhancements to make healthcare more efficient and resilient.

The home screen now displays the next appointment upfront, with reorganised sections spotlighting pending referrals—split between those without bookings and those scheduled—and diagnostic tests like blood work or scans, complete with expiry dates and pending results. Users can create a QR code to share results securely with external providers, such as in neighbouring countries without access to Andorran records. A new FAQs area addresses common issues, and plans call for adding more report types, notifications, and appointment booking options beyond SAAS.

Cosan stressed that digitising pending items ends dependence on paper documents prone to loss or damage. Sánchez explained the interface cuts navigation levels, swaps long labels for intuitive icons, and enhances daily access to key medical data.

Developed amid the Covid crisis and live since 2021, the app has notched over 50,000 downloads, 25,000 unique users, and roughly 5,000 monthly logins. Officials pushed for broader uptake via digital certificate or wallet, noting access barriers may limit active users despite high downloads. The new version rolls out from late this week into early next, requiring an update.
