Key Points

  • 1,257 temporary incapacity cases for mental disorders in 2024; 902 were new.
  • Anxiety accounted for 583 cases (46%); mood episodes 204 (16.2%); depressive disorders 149.
  • Most affected: ages 40–50 (381 cases); women comprised 61% of cases.
  • Average leave 98 days; 85 people (6.8%) on leave >1 year. H1 2025 saw 889 mental-health leaves and may exceed 2024 totals.

Nearly one in two temporary sick leaves attributed to mental disorders in Andorra are linked to anxiety, the Caixa Andorrana de Seguretat Social (CASS) told deputy Pol Bartolomé. Anxiety-related episodes were the leading cause of these incapacities in 2024, followed at a distance by mood-related conditions.

Over the whole of 2024, CASS recorded 1,257 temporary incapacity cases with diagnoses related to mental disorders, of which 902 were new and the remainder carried over from previous years. By disorder type, 583 cases (46%) were anxiety disorders, 204 (16.2%) were mood episodes, and 149 involved depressive disorders.

By age group, people aged 40–50 were the most affected, with 381 cases (30.3%), followed by 294 cases among those aged 30–40 and 288 among those aged 50–60. Cases were more frequent among women (61%) than men (29%).

Sectoral data show the commerce sector had the highest share of workers taking leave for these conditions in 2024, accounting for 293 cases—almost one in four of the total. Public administration was second with 231 cases, of which 148 were government employees, and employees of real estate or rental companies accounted for 206 cases.

The average duration of these leaves in 2024 was 98 days. Eighty-five people—6.8% of the total—have been on leave for more than one year.

CASS also provided partial figures for 2025: by the end of the first half of the year there had been 889 sick leaves for mental health reasons, 500 of them new. CASS reported 7,729 total sick leaves across all causes in that period, with mental-disorder diagnoses representing 11.5% of the total. If the current trend continues, the number of temporary incapacity cases for mental health in 2025 is expected to surpass the 2024 total.
