La Massana parish council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting cancer patients and their families through an expanded oncology accompaniment programme, which has now assisted around 100 people.

The initiative, highlighted on World Cancer Day under this year's theme "United by what makes us unique," began with a wig bank and has grown to offer comprehensive resources addressing physical, emotional, and social needs. Open to anyone in Andorra who requires it, the programme includes complementary therapies, specialised activities, mutual support spaces, and targeted aid for relatives and caregivers.

Key offerings feature "La Balma," a support group for family members and companions that meets twice monthly to provide listening spaces and emotional guidance. Weekly sessions encompass Reiki to balance body and mind, reduce stress, and ease pain; dance movement therapy on Tuesdays for emotional expression; aquagym; and conscious movement practices on Wednesdays, designed as gentle, progressive exercises tailored to participants' abilities.

A dedicated group also facilitates open discussions on oncology-related taboos, equipping attendees with coping tools. The service rounds out with a lending bank of about 15 wigs, plus turbans and headscarves, to help manage physical changes from treatments.

Marc Jové, the councillor for Social Welfare, stated that these measures demonstrate the council's dedication to caring for and accompanying those facing cancer diagnoses, along with their closest circles.
