El Pas de la Casa has opened a new medical centre at the base of the ski slopes this season, providing immediate care for skiers who suffer injuries on the mountain.
The facility, operational since December 5 when the ski season began, offers three consultation rooms, four treatment booths, and a radiology suite, along with all necessary equipment to handle cases ranging from minor sprains to serious trauma. It is staffed by two doctors, two nurses, and an administrator, and remains open daily from 9am to 9pm—four hours after the slopes close at 5pm.
Local entrepreneur Miquel Pirot established the centre in an empty premises he owned, following the collapse of the previous facility previously run by the Escoda family. Dr. Pedro Esteban, one of the physicians on duty, said the team has already treated around 100 patients. He noted that the extended hours accommodate those who initially shrug off a heavy fall but later discover injuries, such as shoulder pain, once back at their accommodation.
The centre fills a critical gap by delivering on-site assessment and initial treatment, allowing patients to avoid self-managing severe issues or facing delays before reaching a hospital. Its location ensures rapid response for anyone injured while skiing in the Grandvalira resort area.
