A 22-year-old man with multiple prior convictions has been arrested twice in less than a week in Andorra la Vella, first for assaulting his father and then for resisting police.
The initial incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the family home in the Marginets area. The man punched his father several times and brandished a knife with an 8-centimetre blade. During his arrest, he insulted officers. He faced charges of offences against physical and moral integrity, public safety, and honour. He received a suspended sentence through the fast-track procedure.
The second arrest took place on Sunday night near Avinguda Tarragona, close to a hotel. Around 11pm, a patrol found the man lying on the ground, clearly under the influence of alcohol. As officers tried to assist him, he became violent upon seeing his partner, with whom he had just argued. When police prevented him from approaching her, he insulted them, disobeyed orders, pushed one officer, and tried to strike another. He was subdued and detained on charges of offences against honour, physical and moral integrity, and public function.
He spent the night in police custody and was due to appear before judicial authorities on Monday. Police reports note his history of similar confrontations.
