Andorra Opens Applications for UN Mission Scholarships in New York for 2026-2027

The Andorran government has opened applications for scholarships enabling young people to undertake training placements at Andorra’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010, the programme provides hands-on experience of the country’s diplomatic activities in international bodies. Placements run for a minimum of four months, from September to December, with a possible one-month extension, all under the mission’s oversight. Selected participants receive full support for travel, accommodation, local transport and health insurance, as detailed in the official terms.

The application window begins the day after the notice appears in the *Butlletí Oficial del Principat d’Andorra* (BOPA) on 13 May and closes on 29 May.

Government spokesperson and minister Guillem Casal highlighted the initiative during recent remarks, framing it as part of broader efforts to promote international mobility and prepare young Andorrans for diplomacy. Speaking on the same occasion, he addressed the EU-Andorra association agreement, stating there are “no major concerns, either bilateral or multilateral”, despite delays in securing unanimous European approval. Casal urged against references to countries “blocking” the deal, describing their input as legitimate objections that do not alter the agreement’s substance. He noted that technical EFTA-UE discussions, followed by Coreper and Council reviews, precede any political sign-off by the EU, Andorra and San Marino—after which parliamentary approval and a referendum would follow before entry into force.
