A man has received a 12-month suspended prison sentence for assaulting his ex-partner's partner in an Andorran street last April.

The court ruling imposes a four-year suspension period on the sentence, provided the man pays civil liability within 18 months and covers court costs. He must compensate the victim with more than €3,000 for injuries from punches received, plus over €30 to the CASS for related medical expenses.

During the trial, the accused denied attacking the complainant, claiming he could not recall the incident. He dismissed the victim's account as untrue, while admitting a prior violent episode that he blamed on alcohol consumption. He maintained he is not a violent person and noted he was already under a suspended sentence at the time.

Prosecutors had sought 14 months suspended, €3,000 in damages, and payment of the CASS medical bill. The defence requested acquittal, arguing insufficient evidence to identify the accused as the assailant.

The sentence delivers one year suspended alongside the compensation for the victim's injuries.
