Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police awarded bronze medals with blue distinction to two senior Andorran inspectors on Thursday, recognising their strong cross-border cooperation.

The honour went to Josep Lluís Martínez and Josep Albert Rivero during the Alt Pirineu and Aran Police Day event at the Castell Motel in La Seu d'Urgell. The medals highlight "excellent collaboration in criminal investigations and operational relations" between the Mossos d'Esquadra station in La Seu d'Urgell and Andorra's police force.

Rivero currently heads the Technical Intervention Unit (UIT), overseeing all special groups and designing security operations, such as the visit by Emmanuel Macron. He previously led operational investigation teams for many years.

Martínez succeeded him in that role and now manages the most technical unit within the investigations area, including scientific police and the technological crimes group. He was previously the head inspector of the UIT.

Both officers hold key positions and belong to a group of officials who could step into leadership roles when current directors, such as Bruno Lasne and Miquel Àngel Barbolla, near the end of their careers.
