Adolescents' Council Proposes Health, Sports, and Transport Upgrades for Andorra's Northern Valleys

The Adolescents' Council of the Northern Valleys convened its second session on Tuesday morning in Ordino's council chamber, where students from the Ordino and La Massana Andorran Secondary Schools, Àgora Andorra International School, and the La Massana Vocational Training Centre presented proposals prioritising health, wellbeing, sports, mobility, and youth leisure facilities.

The group emphasised initiatives tied to physical activity and outdoor spaces, sidelining technology-focused ideas. Ordino's senior councillor, Maria del Mar Coma, praised this focus, stating it showed young people's greater interest in outdoor exercise over screen time indoors.

Drawing from surveys and joint workshops across the schools in recent months, students called for better public transport in the Northern Valleys, including more frequent and extensive services between Ordino, La Massana, Anyós, and Sispony, plus real-time information displays at bus stops.

They also sought to enhance youth recreation areas by adding drinking fountains and shaded zones in parks and sports facilities to improve comfort in summer heat. Vocational training students specifically recommended updating youth centres with modern tech, multipurpose rooms for studying or socialising, and broader activities such as workshops, tournaments, and outdoor events.

Political leaders commended the proposals' relevance and feasibility. La Massana's junior councillor, Roger Fité, called them "very interesting and well-suited to current needs," particularly transport improvements for school commutes. He noted the practicality of shade solutions like tarps or tree planting, alongside water points, to meet demands for hydration and sun protection.
