Police in Pas de la Casa arrested a 30-year-old man late Saturday night after he assaulted and threatened two officers during the village's main festa major celebrations.
The incident occurred just after 1am in the Abelletes area near the main stage, where live music acts were performing. Officers had approached to manage a minor disturbance involving another individual shouting and causing a nuisance. The suspect, who was heavily intoxicated, intervened to obstruct their intervention. He suddenly attacked one officer from behind, insulted and threatened both agents, struggled violently with them, and caused injuries to the pair, according to an official police statement.
Video footage showed the unprovoked strike, forcing officers to shift their focus from the original disturbance. They subdued the man by taking him to the ground and applying proportional force against his resistance. The initial individual causing the shouting calmed down as attention turned to the attacker.
Local sources identified the suspect as a Colombian resident known to neighbours for repeatedly starting altercations and disturbing the community. This was not his first such incident, they said. He faces charges including crimes against public authority, physical and moral integrity, liberty, and honour.
Police have not provided further updates on the officers' conditions or the investigation.
