Andorra Firefighters Probe Smoke Alerts in 3 False Alarms on Tuesday

Emergency services in Andorra la Vella responded to a smoke alert from a fifth-floor apartment on Carrer Bonaventura Riberaygua number 9 on Tuesday evening, but found no fire or identifiable source after a thorough inspection.

The call came in at 8:55pm from the woman living in the flat, who reported smoke coming from her home. Firefighters from the prevention and extinction corps arrived shortly before 10pm with a fire truck and used thermal cameras to check the apartment and the entire building. The shift supervisor told Diari d'Andorra that no trace of the smoke's origin was found. Initial concerns among neighbours focused on a nearby unit occupied by a young man living alone. Later reports suggested a possible electrical fault that produced smoke but no flames, though this was not confirmed on site.

Police, traffic agents, and an ambulance attended for precautionary reasons amid heightened security during national celebrations that night. No medical treatment was needed, and traffic services managed onlookers without significant disruption. The incident resolved without further issues.

In a separate callout just after midnight in Pas de la Casa, firefighters mobilised to a home in the Lake Placid development at Plaça dels Vaquers following reports of heavy smoke from a window. On arrival, they determined the smoke was actually steam from a pot of water left on a lit ceramic hob; the occupant had fallen asleep. Police also responded to the citizen alert, but the matter amounted to a false alarm with no serious consequences.

Earlier that same Tuesday afternoon, firefighters had used a ladder truck on Carrer de la Llacuna in Andorra la Vella to stabilise a building facade after fragments fell and more threatened pedestrians. Traffic agents reported the issue around 7pm based on resident alerts. The preventive operation, which required no evacuations or closures, took less than an hour.
