Andorra Court Upholds 3-Year Rape Sentence for Madrid Tourist

Andorra's Superior Court has confirmed a three-year prison sentence for a 21-year-old Madrid tourist found guilty of sexually assaulting a seasonal worker in a Pas de la Casa nightclub bathroom in March 2025.

The ruling, issued after dismissing appeals from both sides last June, means the man must serve 10 additional months, having already completed that period in pre-trial detention. The Court of Corts had imposed the sentence in March following a January trial, classifying the offence as a major sexual assault amounting to rape. The defendant was released on a €12,000 bail after the trial pending the verdict.

Prosecutors had appealed for a six-year term, arguing the original penalty was too lenient. The defence sought acquittal, contending the Court of Corts failed to conduct a comprehensive review of all evidence and overly relied on the victim's account, while overlooking details that supported claims of consent.

The Superior Court rejected both appeals, upholding the lower court's evaluation of the evidence. The case originated when the tourist was arrested in Pas de la Casa over the bathroom incident at a nightlife venue. No further details on the circumstances have been released by authorities.
